Tottenham Hotspur 0-2 Manchester City: Haaland inspires away win

City close gap on leaders Arsenal with victory in North London

Manchester City moved to within five points of Premier League leaders Arsenal with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Erling Haaland scored both goals for the visitors, taking his tally for the season to an incredible 27 in all competitions.

Haaland breaks the deadlock

The Norwegian striker opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, tapping home from close range after Kevin De Bruyne's shot had been parried by Fraser Forster. Haaland then doubled City's lead in the 82nd minute, converting a penalty after Richarlison had been adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Ortega to the rescue

Stefan Ortega, who was making his first Premier League start for City, produced a stunning save to deny Harry Kane late on and preserve the clean sheet. The German goalkeeper, who was deputising for the injured Ederson, showed great reflexes to keep out Kane's header from point-blank range.

City in control

City were in control of the game for long periods, with De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan pulling the strings in midfield. Tottenham had their moments, but they were unable to really test Ortega. The win sees City move up to second in the Premier League table, behind Arsenal on goal difference. Tottenham remain in fifth place.
